About Nancy

Nancy A. Berkhouse, a talented and dedicated artist, spent a lifetime inspiring others through her artistry and teaching. For over fifty years, Nancy developed and perfected her craft through the inspiration of Jesus Christ her Savior, by whom she was gifted for the purpose of glorifying Him and blessing others. Her artistic journey began with an education at Waynesburg College in Western Pennsylvania, which provided her with a teaching background. However, her passion for art truly flourished after she moved to East Texas in 1960. It was during this time that her unique talents emerged, guided by her faith in God and a desire to depict His creation.

Nancy was impressively prolific, producing nearly 900 paintings, in addition to untold miniatures and unique items, over the course of her career. Her expertise spanned a variety of mediums, including pastels, oils, and acrylics. Known for her rich and harmonious use of color, her works ranged from soft and subtle tones to vibrant hues, creating compositions that were both flowing and deeply absorbing. The depth and warmth in her art brought lifelike images to life, captivating viewers with their beauty and emotional resonance.

Early on, Nancy gained recognition for her Texas Hill Country landscapes. After spending weeks immersed in the region, she developed a deep appreciation for its natural beauty, famously catching “bluebonnet fever.” She never tired of painting the region’s iconic vistas, but her talents extended far beyond landscapes. As a dedicated teacher, Nancy believed that an accomplished artist should be versatile, capable of painting almost any subject. She excelled in portraits, still lifes, animal studies, and florals, demonstrating her broad expertise and commitment to her craft, and her art achieved widespread popularity, earning numerous awards, ribbons, and honors across genres.

Over the years Nancy shared her knowledge and skills with countless students, teaching them the principles of painting she had mastered. Despite the many hours she devoted to her own creations, teaching remained an integral part of her life throughout her career. She found joy in sharing her passion for painting with her students, who often praised her patience, skill, and dedication as an instructor.
